Learning from the Best: Cebu Wagyu & Branded Beef Production Seminar
At Novus Farmstead, we’re always on the lookout for ways to improve our farming knowledge and practices—and this week, we had the privilege of learning from two of the most respected figures in the Philippine agriculture and livestock industry.
We attended the Cebu Wagyu and Branded Beef Production Seminar, featuring former Secretary of Agriculture Sir Manny Piñol and cattle-raising expert Sir Arnel Corpuz, both known for their unwavering advocacy for local agriculture and food security. Their insights were not just informative—they were empowering.
Why This Seminar Matters
The event focused on the rising potential of Wagyu cattle and the importance of branded beef production in the Philippines. These two key strategies offer a roadmap for increasing the value of local beef, improving meat quality, and creating premium market opportunities for Filipino farmers.
With increasing consumer awareness around food quality and sustainability, local beef producers are challenged to meet high standards. This seminar showed us that with the right practices, Cebu can be a model for high-quality, branded local beef.
Key Highlights from the Seminar
- Wagyu in the Philippines
Sir Manny Piñol shared success stories and research-backed practices on raising Wagyu cattle in local conditions. From genetics to nutrition and market placement, he emphasized the long-term benefits of investing in premium cattle breeds. - Branded Beef as a Game-Changer
Sir Arnel Corpuz highlighted how branded beef systems create consistency, consumer trust, and traceability—all while elevating the status of local meat products. He also discussed strategies for setting up cattle operations and the importance of animal welfare and proper feed. - Sustainability & Local Economic Upliftment
Both speakers pointed out that improving beef quality isn't just about profit. It’s about empowering farmers, reducing dependence on imported meat, and creating a strong, self-reliant local food system.
Looking Ahead: What This Means for Novus Farmstead
As a farm committed to sustainable agriculture, this seminar has sparked new ideas for us. Whether it’s exploring native-Wagyu crossbreeding, collaborating with local meat processors, or establishing quality standards for our own livestock, the learning we gained is a solid foundation for growth.
We’re excited to be part of the movement that pushes for premium, sustainable, and proudly local beef—right here in Cebu.
And most importantly
Our deepest gratitude to Sir Manny Piñol and Sir Arnel Corpuz for generously sharing their expertise and vision. Their leadership reminds us that farming is not just a livelihood—it’s a mission of national importance.
Let’s continue supporting events like this, building networks among local producers, and working together to raise the bar for Philippine agriculture.
